Children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30 can start kindergarten in the 2026-27 school year. Registering now will help schools prepare for the best possible kindergarten year, which in turn will give students a strong start to their K-12 years.
In Chesterfield County Public Schools, there are two steps to kindergarten registration: online preregistration, then in-person registration.
The first step for Chesterfield County families is to preregister online starting March 2. These documents are needed when preregistering: student’s birth certificate, emergency contact phone number and previous school info (if applicable).
The second step takes place in person at schools. After families preregister online, then their school will be in touch to set up an in-person appointment.
This CCPS in the Know video provides a quick overview in English and in Spanish. Additional details about registration requirements are available at bit.ly/CCPSregister.
Parents who have questions should contact the school their child will attend. If you’re not sure which school that is, then go to bit.ly/myCCPS and type your address into the school locator.
